Once Upon a Farm snack bars recalled over choking hazard

An organic children’s food company has voluntarily recalled a product.

On Friday, Once Upon a Farm announced a recall of its Tractor Wheels soft-baked bars due to a potential choking hazard for toddlers.

The company says the decision to issue a recall came after three consumer complaints, and it’s acting “out of an abundance of caution” and “in the best interest of our customers and our commitment to quality.”

The recall was issued the same day the Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to buy the snack bars. That advisory came after the agency had received several reports of toddlers “suffering complete airway obstruction with the inability to breathe after consuming the product.”

The FDA advisory states that once chewed, the product becomes a dry, sticky mass that standard choking interventions may fail to dislodge. Some reported choking incidents required emergency response intervention and hospital observation.

The recalled bars were sold online and distributed to stores nationwide. They come in three varieties:

  • Apple, Sweet Potato, & Spinach Tractor Wheels
  • Strawberry, Pumpkin, & Beet Tractor Wheels
  • Banana, Pumpkin & Cauliflower Tractor Wheels

Anyone with the recalled product should not open the package. Instead, return it to the point of purchase for a full refund or contact care@uponafarm.com for help.
