Penguins’ Kevin Acklin talks upgrades to PPG Paints Arena

PITTSBURGH — This year, PPG Paints Arena will celebrate its 13th year as the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

However, even as the arena enters its teenage years, Penguins’ leadership still says its one of the best arenas in the league, not just for hockey, but also for concerts.

“Our arena is 12 years old, but if you walked in there today, it still feels brand new,” said Kevin Acklin, the Penguins’ president of business operations. “We’ve spent a lot of time and effort, making the critical investments, keeping it clean, keeping it ahead of the curve.”

The latest addition to keep the arena looking and feeling brand new is the plan to build the nearly 4,000-square-foot Casamigos Club on the event level of the venue. The club, which is part of a partnership with Casamigos tequila, will turn a storage space into a place that will offer fans and concertgoers a premium experience.
