2 charged after attempted robbery, shooting in Beechview after woman allegedly lures man to home

PITTSBURGH — An attempted robbery turned shooting has a 20-year-old and 16-year-old facing a series of charges.

Police were called to Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood just before 1 a.m. Wednesday after a man was shot in the leg trying to avoid having his car stolen.

Nyzjayah Majors, 20 and James Phillips, 16, are charged in the incident.

According to the police report, Majors used the dating app “BLK” to ask the victim to come to a home on Napoleon Street, where she was waiting with Phillips.

Phillips is accused of hitting the man in the head multiple times with the handle of a gun when the man refused to give up his car.

The criminal complaint states Majors then told Phillips to “just pop him,” before Phillips allegedly fired three to four shots, hitting the man once.

The man went to the hospital in stable condition.

According to court documents, Phillips was charged with aggravated assault when he was just 15 for an unrelated incident in 2021.

As for Majors, this is not the first time she has allegedly been at the center of a luring scheme using BLK or Facebook.

Police paperwork shows she asked a man to come to a home in Wilkinsburg on March 1 where two armed men stole the victim’s phone, cash and car.

Majors was arrested on March 14, but released on bond.

Between March 28 and 29, she allegedly lured three men — one to that same home in Wilkinsburg — and two to a home in West Mifflin.

All three times, according to police reports, three to four armed men surrounded the victims, stealing their cars, phones, wallets, jewelry, and shoes.

It is unclear if Phillips was involved in the other robberies.

Both Phillips and Majors had active warrants for their arrest when police took them into custody Wednesday.

The duo was arraigned Wednesday evening, and they are being held at the Allegheny County Jail without bond.
