A Pennsylvania state trooper has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a series of sex crimes.

Attorney General Dave Sunday said Corporal Stephen M. Kamnik, 40, will spend five to 10 years in prison, followed by seven years of probation. He must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

This comes after Kamnik pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Four felony counts of unlawful use of a computer
  • Sexual abuse of children, a felony
  • Receiving stolen property (regarding a firearm), a felony
  • Unlawful duplication, a felony
  • Interception, disclosure or use of wire, electronic or oral communications, a felony
  • Criminal trespass, a felony
  • Misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy, official oppression, tampering with evidence, misapplication of entrusted property, and unlawful use of an audio or video device in court

Investigators said Kamnik filmed people without their knowledge, including his coworkers and a magisterial district judge, which were then edited for apparent lewd purposes.

He was also convicted of using AI and other online tools to create pornography, sometimes using Commonwealth-owned devices at the Montgomery County barracks to do so.

“This high-ranking public servant betrayed his oath and committed numerous crimes — many while on the job when he was supposed to be serving his community,” Attorney General Sunday said. “This conviction stains the many hard-working officers who abide by their oath and put their lives on the line every day to keep Pennsylvania safe.”

A stolen firearm was also found inside Kamnik’s vehicle during a search in January.
