Philadelphia murder suspect arrested in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Squad arrested a murder suspect from Philadelphia Monday in Braddock.

Authorities say 29-year-old Dominic Rountree was wanted for the Sept. 21 murder of his brother, 31-year-old Jacquell Rountree, in Philadelphia.

On Sept. 21, Philadelphia Police responded to an emergency call at the Rountree’s family residence, where they encountered Jacquell Rountree lying on the front porch.

The victim, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries later that evening.

Family members state Jacquell’s death was the fallout of a verbal argument between him and his brother, Dominic, concerning usage of space in the house’s basement.

The quarrel escalated when Dominic allegedly retrieved a gun from the basement and returned to the first floor, where he shot Jacquell multiple times.

After the altercation, Dominic was seen armed and fleeing the property by foot.

The following day, a Philadelphia County arrest warrant was issued for Rountree on indictments of murder, violations of the uniform firearms act and possession of instruments of crime.

On Monday, Philadelphia FBI contacted the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office with intelligence that Rountree had traveled to Pittsburgh and was hiding in a Braddock Borough apartment building.

Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force contacted Sheriff’s Office detectives to collectively devise and execute an operation to locate and safely apprehend the suspect.

Around 2:30 p.m., FBI task force investigators, Sheriff's deputies and Braddock police reported to 647 4^th Street, where they observed a male fitting Rountree's physical description on the balcony of a third floor apartment.

They entered the building and made contact with the apartment’s tenant, who granted entry to the residence disclosing her daughter and her friend Dominic were also inside.

Authorities immediately encountered the occupant’s daughter in the living room.

They performed a sweep of the apartment and discovered a locked bedroom door.

Deputies knocked on the door and announced their presence multiple times, receiving no response.

After breaching entry to the room, they found Rountree inside, sitting on a bed.

Deputies and investigators took the suspect into custody without further incident.

Rountree is currently lodged in the Allegheny County Jail, awaiting extradition to Philadelphia County.
