Pittsburgh-area hibachi restaurant hit with consumer alert

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for a Pittsburgh-area hibachi restaurant.

A Food Safety Assessment Report shows that inspectors found five different violations at Saga Hibachi Steakhouse and Sushi Bar in Monroeville Thursday.

Inspectors reportedly discovered 10 live cockroaches and eggs under a shelf behind the sushi bar, plus five cockroaches on and behind the kitchen hand sink.

More cockroaches were found dead on a shelf behind sushi carts and in glue boards under hibachi grills, the report says. Dead flies were stuck to traps above food preparation and handling areas.

Also, the report notes multiple soiled surfaces in the restaurant, including grease build-up around the fryers and food debris on coolers and shelves.

Inspectors ordered the restaurant to undergo a deep clean and cockroach treatment, among other requirements, for the consumer alert to be removed.
