Pittsburgh Public Schools holding remote classes Tuesday through Thursday due to high temperatures

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools students at nearly three dozen buildings are learning remotely for several days this week because of high temperatures.

The district said that 35 school buildings will switch to synchronous learning Sept. 1 through Sept. 3 because of the heat.

Temperatures are expected to hit the 90s next week.

School officials said the district’s Extreme Heat Protocol kicks in when National Weather Service forecasts estimate temperatures will exceed 85 degrees or project a heat index of 90 degrees or higher. When that happens, officials evaluate the school temperatures and discuss whether or not to switch to remote learning.
