PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith participated in multiple Pittsburgh-area community outreach initiatives, supporting health screenings and hunger relief efforts.
Highsmith conducted the events in partnership with the Highsmith Family Foundation and through his role as an NFL ambassador.
He was selected by the American Cancer Society as a Crucial Catch ambassador for the season. He is among 32 ambassadors selected across the league, with one representative chosen from each NFL team.
Highsmith and the Highsmith Family Foundation joined the American Cancer Society and the Allegheny County Breast Collaborative on Oct. 4 to launch Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Held at Woodland Park Plaza at Hazelwood Green, the kickoff event provided community members with access to free and low-cost breast cancer screenings. Local vendors and community organizations also gathered to share facts and address myths surrounding breast cancer while honoring those affected by the disease.
At the end of the season, the American Cancer Society will select one ambassador to receive the ACS Ambassador of the Year Award. Inspired by the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, the honor recognizes an ambassador’s dedication and support to the initiative.
