PITTSBURGH — A teen was hit by a school van in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood.

Information shared by a Pittsburgh Public Information Officer Wednesday afternoon said emergency crews were called to the intersection of Brighton Road and Benton Avenue at around 7 a.m. for reports of a person hit by a vehicle.

A 16-year-old boy was crossing Brighton at Benton Avenue when he was struck. He was alert and conscious and able to speak with officers and medics at the scene. Medics took him to UPMC Children’s Hospital to be evaluated.

Police said the school van belongs to a private company.

The driver stayed at the scene, and police said they were fully cooperative with investigators.

Officers are reviewing surveillance video in the area.
