BRADDOCK HILLS, Pa. — Gently used toys will have a new home this holiday season following an annual toy giveaway at the Propel Braddock Hills High School Saturday.
The event was part of the annual Play it Forward Pittsburgh toy drive, which collects toys, books, games and stuffed animals ahead of the giveaway.
People in need were encouraged to come to the high school to pick out the items they wanted to give children as holiday gifts.
“It helps a lot. It takes a lot of stress off your back knowing that you have some place to go where there are very nice toys,” said Duprene Johnson.
More than 20,000 toys were collected in 2012, substantial growth from the drive’s first year, which brought in 5,000 toys.
In 2012 more than 2,000 local children benefited from Play it Forward.
