Police: Man suspected of breaking into old ice cream plant on North Side now paralyzed

PITTSBURGH — A man suspected of breaking into the former Reinhold’s Ice Cream Plant on the North Side is now paralyzed, police said.

Investigators said Joseph Keefer, 46, was found by a guard Friday morning after something in the plant fell on him. He was taken to the hospital, and is now paralyzed from the waist down, officials said.

Police believe he was there to steal scrap and copper from the building, and said he may be responsible for a number of copper thefts.
