PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police and school security responded to a fight involving a large group of students in a shopping center near Carrick High School this afternoon.
The brawl happened at the Carrick Shopping Center on Brownsville Road.
Officers reported finding 20-30 juveniles fighting in the area. One was taken to a police station and later released to their family.
Principal Dawn Fitchwell emailed parents, saying officers were there to ensure the safety of students and the community.
The school was put in ‘secure’ mode for the remainder of the day.
In her letter, Fitchwell said she was concerned over the involvement and actions of some adults at the scene.
Her email went on to say:
“Fighting, threatening behavior, intimidation, or any conduct that places students, staff, families or community members at risk will not be tolerated.”
Fitchwell urged adults to model the behavior they wish to see practiced by the students.
