SAXONBURG, Pa. — A Butler County woman is accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the PTO organization at the South Butler Primary School in Saxonburg.
According to the criminal complaint, Paula Duke, 41, was the PTO treasurer during the 2010-11 school year. Duke told police she took the money to help feed and clothe her children when he husband ran into legal trouble.
Police said for more than a year and a half several suspicious transactions showed up within the organization.
Duke’s husband is dealing with a DUI charge and she told police she only took $3,000 to deal with her family troubles.
The PTO, which is not directly affiliated with the school, said it has changed its practices when it comes to collecting and keeping money.
