SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Following a weekend fire at Shaler Area’s Rogers Primary School, students from that school will attend Burchfield Primary School, starting Wednesday.

Shaler Area has canceled classes for Rogers Primary students only on Tuesday. All Rogers Primary teachers are to report to Burchfield Primary School, located at 1500 Burchfield Road, on Tuesday. All other district buildings will operate as usual.
District officials said they will hold a special meeting for all Rogers Primary School parents at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Burchfield Primary gymnasium to discuss the transition plan for the kindergarten through third-grade students.
Some items of note for those impacted by the transition include:
Rogers Primary students will remain with their homeroom teacher and classmates in a new classroom at Burchfield Primary School;
All custodial and maintenance members and the Rogers Primary administration will be relocated to Burchfield Primary School;
Rogers Primary students will ride their current assigned bus at the same pick-up time;
Rogers Primary students who previously walked to school will be assigned a bus number and bus stop location and time;
The Rogers Primary School contact numbers remain the same; and
The start and end time of school remain the same.
"We are so appreciative of the cooperation and support of the community as we establish a transition plan for the students, faculty and staff," said Bethany Hofstetter, district communications specialist. "We are looking forward to welcoming all of the students returning from spring break and getting our Rogers Primary students back in the classroom. We will continue to monitor the transition plan and make adjustments as necessary."
The fire Saturday was reported at Rogers Primary School at 8:45 a.m. It was contained to a mechanical room, but there was smoke damage throughout the building.
The Allegheny County fire marshall continues to investigate and has not yet released the cause of the fire.Close to 200 students attend Rogers Primary School.
