PITTSBURGH — A day after Channel 11 reported on the rape of an unconscious woman here in Pittsburgh’s South Side, we’ve learned that the district attorney, police chief and mayor will meet to discuss safety concerns.
Even though rape suspect Larry Pappy Johnson is on the run from Pittsburgh police, he isn’t doing much to keep a low profile.
Over the last 24 hours, Johnson appears to have made several social media posts. In one of them, he’s singing to the camera. In another, he’s dancing in front of a mirror.
Pittsburgh police detectives have been searching for Johnson for the last 24 hours after police say he dragged an unconscious woman into a parking lot off South 14th Street.
According to investigators, surveillance cameras show Johnson raping the woman, stealing her purse and leaving her there naked.
The woman told police that she remembers having a drink, then waking up in the hospital with barely any recollection of the time in between.
Channel 11’s Gabriella DeLuca called the number police listed for Johnson. Tuesday, when DeLuca asked him about the charges he’s facing, he said he didn’t know what she was talking about.
Wednesday, someone picked up his phone but wouldn’t respond — and just listened in silence.
We’ve also looked into his criminal history and uncovered that Johnson was charged with attempted homicide in 2019 for a stabbing in the South Side.
Channel 11 had to look into our archives for his old mug shot — because when we asked Allegheny County and Pittsburgh police officials to provide it so that we could spread awareness about a rape suspect on the loose in the South Side — neither would release it.
