PITTSBURGH — The owner of a long-time Pittsburgh nursing facility has filed for protection from creditors via Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Squirrel Hill PA Realty LLC, which filed its application on August 21 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in downtown Pittsburgh, owns Squirrel Hill Wellness & Rehabilitation Center, a 178-bed facility that’s been a local fixture for close to 40 years.
“Right now, the company is focused on continuity of operations and starting a process to sell the skilled nursing facility as a going concern,” Michael Shiner, the lawyer who is representing Squirrel Hill PA Realty, said via email.
It faces “the same challenges” as many other skilled nursing facilities in Pennsylvania that filed bankruptcy in the last few years, he added. Chapter 11 means restructuring.
