Steelers new grass passes tough test with flying colors

The new playing surface installed at Acrisure Stadium ahead of the 2026 season had its first serious test this weekend, and by all accounts, it passed with flying colors.

Pittsburgh Steelers and opposition players repeatedly complained about the grass surface at the 25-year-old stadium last year, after a number of years of the Steelers mostly getting it right when it came to maintaining their natural playing surface.

Last year, for whatever reason, the grass did not last as long as it had in years past, with an October game against the Cleveland Browns providing a noticeably poor playing field. Special teams captain Miles Killebrew was lost for the rest of the regular season to a knee injury that the Steelers blamed on the field conditions, and kicker Chris Boswell slipped while trying to plant for a field goal attempt. He missed the field goal and was fortunate to escape injury.
