PITTSBURGH — The VA Pittsburgh Health Care System received funding to repair and modernize local health care facilities.

The funding is part of a record $4.8 billion spent nationwide by the Veterans Health Administration for facility upgrades during fiscal year 2026.

The fourth-quarter allocation follows funds received by VA Pittsburgh earlier in the fiscal year. The funding will support infrastructure projects at the health care system’s University Drive campus and H.J. Heinz III campus.

Elevator upgrades and modernizations are scheduled for both the University Drive campus in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood and the H.J. Heinz III campus in O’Hara Township. Renovations will improve transit between procedure areas and patient floors. Work will be phased to limit the impact on veterans while expediting upgraded elevator cars in high-traffic areas across both campuses.

Pharmacy operations at both the University Drive and Heinz campuses will undergo renovations to expand their sterile compounding environments. Additionally, crews will upgrade data, electrical and cooling systems at both locations to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ pending Electronic Health Record Modernization program.

Prachi V. Asher serves as interim executive director of VA Pittsburgh Health care System.

“This funding empowers VA Pittsburgh to advance modernization efforts — ensuring our facilities remain safe, efficient and equipped to deliver high-quality care to Veterans throughout the Pittsburgh region,” Asher said.
