PITTSBURGH — A Braddock woman is facing multiple charges after police say she brought a registered firearm into the security screening area at Rib Fest and later fought with officers outside Acrisure Stadium.
According to a criminal complaint, Pittsburgh Police were working an off-duty detail at the festival Saturday night when stadium staff alerted them to an intoxicated, disorderly woman at Gate B.
Police identified the woman as Jalaya Monet Sudduth, 25. The complaint says security discovered she had a registered firearm while she was going through metal detectors.
Sudduth was told she could not enter the private event and was advised to leave the firearm in her vehicle, according to police. The complaint says she continued toward the event and became increasingly disruptive as officers escorted her toward the exit.
Police allege Sudduth yelled obscenities, threw her belongings, and resisted officers. After she was handcuffed, police say she managed to slip one wrist free and stood up.
According to the complaint, an officer then forced Sudduth to the ground. Police allege she kicked an officer in the legs and spat on another officer’s legs.
Sudduth later claimed she was having seizures and began convulsing, the complaint says. Medics responded and took her to the hospital for evaluation. She was later discharged and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
Sudduth is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.
The incident has left some people attending Rib Fest surprised.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. Why on earth would anyone want to bring a gun into a place like this?” said Jonathan Gesaman of Pittsburgh.
Another festivalgoer, who was attending Rib Fest for the first time on Monday, said the security process was straightforward.
“It was easy,” said Claire Fischer. “They checked through security; they were making sure everything was good.”
