MOUNT OLIVER, Pa. — A woman remains hospitalized Wednesday after she lost part of her finger trying to break up a dog fight in Mount Oliver.
According to law enforcement authorities, the woman was walking her German shepherd along Onyx Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when a pit bull cleared a fence and started attacking.
A nearby resident saw the attack and intervened to help the woman before paramedics arrived.
Neighbor Austin Seidel noticed the disturbance and immediately stepped in to assist the victim. Seidel applied a tourniquet to the woman’s hand to control the bleeding and stayed with her until emergency assistance arrived.
“She lost the tip of her finger. I can’t imagine the pain she was in. Just kind of did some breathing exercises with her. In through the nose, out through the mouth type of thing,” Seidel said.
The woman’s boyfriend described the entire ordeal as traumatic and confirmed that she remains in the hospital for treatment. He added that the German shepherd survived the attack and is currently in stable condition.
Law enforcement officials said no charges have been brought forward in connection with the attack at this time.
