Zelienople solicitor says upcoming drag brunch at restaurant not lewd after outcry

Zelionople’s solicitor has deemed that an upcoming drag brunch is not obscene after the owners of a restaurant received backlash for hosting the event.

Burgh’ers Brewing Company owners told Channel 11 they received hateful messages online and over the phone after they announced they are hosting a drag brunch with S & S Productions this Sunday.

The owners told us they filed a police report because the messages got so bad.

In her opinion, Zelionople’s solicitor, Bonnie Brimmeier, wrote that the event does not fall under the definition of “Lewd Matter” as set forth in the borough’s ordinance and that the event involves “singing, dancing and costumes, not nudity or sexual acts.”

The borough posted Brimmeier’s opinion on their Facebook page.

The owners said they were surprised by the backlash because they held the same event at their other location in Lawrenceville weeks ago and there were no issues.

The restaurant said they are also receiving a lot of support from others in the community, so they are opening their patio area during the event for supporters.

The Zelienople police chief said they are investigating and will have extra officers on hand.
