NEW ALEXANDRIA, Pa.,None — A man accused of stabbing another man in a Sheetz parking in New Alexandria earlier this month said he's sorry for what he did.
Bryan Novak, 26, of Derry, was in his truck, parked in the lot, when Christopher Van Essen, 25, of New Alexandria, pulled in and blocked him in, police said.
Van Essen's mother said he was trying to help a woman who told him that her estranged husband was following her.
"He was trying to help out some girls and it backfired," said Susan Van Essen. "It's upsetting."
According to Susan Van Essen, her son blocked Novak's car so he wouldn't follow the woman home.
"The other guy tried to back out and ran into my son's jeep and tapped it a couple of times and my son got upset and punched him. Then the guy stabbed him," Susan Van Essen said.
Police said Novak used a pocket knife and fled the scene after the stabbing. Novak said he later turned himself into police and now regrets the entire incident.
"I'm very sorry that this happened I didn't mean for it to go down the way it did," Novak said.
