“It's unsafe. I'm afraid that one day the roof is going to collapse and the bodies are going to be on the ground,” Watkins said. “My wife is buried here, my parents are buried here. I complained to various state authorities about the conditions of this mausoleum that you see behind me. It's a health hazard.”
Watkins recently buried his mother at a cost of $20,000.
“You'd think they would put some of the money back into the cemetery just to maintain it, because it's a very expensive proposition to bury someone,” he said.
In addition to state officials, Watkins said he has also contacted the owner of the cemetery about repairs.
“I've talked to the people who own the cemetery, StoneMor located in the eastern part of the state. I've gotten nowhere with them. They won't return my phone calls. I've talked to them many times,” he said.
