Man, woman fatally struck in Ambridge by train carrying 215 passengers

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — Two people were killed early Sunday morning when they were hit by a passenger train in Ambridge, Beaver County, authorities said.

Police said Scott A. Meckling, 49, and Kollene McCoy-Graham, 48, both of Ambridge, were struck by the train, which Amtrak confirmed was carrying 215 passengers, about 12:30 a.m. The train was en route to Chicago from Washington, D.C., at the time of the accident near Ambridge's sewage treatment plant on Ohio River Boulevard.

Channel 11's Lori Houy was told by Ambridge police that the train's conductor told investigators that the victims tried to beat the train across the tracks. The accident did not happen at a crossing.

The train was stopped for about two hours. None of its passengers were injured.

Ambridge police are handling the investigation.
