Monroeville Restaurant Bans Children Under 6

MONROEVILLE, Pa.,None — The owner of a Monroeville restaurant said it will no longer allow children under age 6 to dine at the establishment.

McDain's Restaurant and Golf Center owner Mike Vuick said there's "nothing wrong with babies, but the fact is you can't control their volume."

Vuick said in the last decade, children have become more unruly and parents get upset when the children are asked to behave. He said all the screaming and crying disturbs many of his customers.

The ban will go into effect July 16.

McDain's atmosphere is intentionally adult, and the restaurant includes a bar, Vuick said. He said it is not a kid-oriented establishment.

"Some have accused me of being a child hater," said Viuch.

The retired school teacher said he is the first restaurant owner in the area to ban children. Most people Channel 11's Timyka Artist spoke with said they agree with Viuch's decision.

"Screaming usually doesn't bother me, but unattended children probably would," said one man.

"If it's a teen, you have to be 21 to get in a bar. So what's the difference?" asked another person.

But other said it is discriminating an entire group of people.

"I handle my kids. They behave themselves when they're out in public. I won't be going to McDain's and I know a lot of people who won't be going there too," one woman said.
