Borges' trial is set to begin in November.
Borges is accused of stabbing and decapitating Viloria-Paulino. The victim's body was found on a riverbank near Water Street in December 2016.
Investigators say Mathew told them he left Lee there at 7 p.m. that evening and Lee wasn't seen again until his decapitated body was found along the river on Dec. 1.
In Friday's court proceedings, the judge was expected to discuss the motions in the case.
