None — A new report from the Institute for Highway Safety showed that senior citizens are driving more, keeping their drivers licenses longer and are safe on the roads.
According to the report, senior drivers are involved in fewer crashes even though more senior citizens are driving.
The Institute for Highway Safety released the study Tuesday that showed a decrease in deadly crashes for drivers over 70 years old. Experts said the figure dropped 37 percent from the past decade.
Experts said there are several reasons for the decrease.
"Cars are getting safer, people are aging in a healthier way and staying healthier longer, and older drivers are monitoring their own driving," said Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons representative Nancy Thompson.
Experts said two other factors that keep seniors safe on the roads are compared to younger drivers, older drivers typically travel fewer miles and are less likely to be distracted by cell phones.
