Rare Honus Wagner baseball card sells for new record price

The most coveted baseball card of all-time has seen its legend and value skyrocket yet again.

A "jumbo" T206 Honus Wagner card sold Saturday night for $3.12 million dollars.  It's a new record price for a trading card at a public auction.

The card's previous owner purchased it back in 2013 for a price of $2.1 million.

Honus Wagner cards, released by the American Tobacco Company's T206 series, are the most valuable baseball cards in the world.

Only 200 copies were ever released, with only 50 known to still exist.

The auction price still fell well-short of the record for sports memorabilia.

A Babe Ruth game-worn jersey from 1920 sold for $4.4 million back in 2012.
