$10,000 reward offered to help investigators find out what happened to Cassandra Gross

LATROBE, Pa. — A $10,000 reward is now being offered by Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers to help investigators found out what happened to Cassandra Gross.

Gross was 51 at the time she disappeared from Latrobe in 2018. Her mother reported her missing three days after their last conversation. That was also the same day Gross’ Mitsubishi Outlander was found burned near railroad tracks in Twin Lakes Park.

Gross’ disappearance has been linked to Thomas Stanko, an estranged boyfriend. Last December, a prosecutor in the case said murder charges would be filed against Stanko. He has remained in jail on unrelated weapons charges during the course of the investigation. Investigators repeatedly searched Stanko’s property and a nearby cemetery looking for Gross.

Gross’ body has never been found and the case has been classified as a homicide. Her family initially offered reward money but that was withdrawn after relatives found her vehicle.

Gross’ mother, Kathie, said she is appreciative of this new reward money but fears it could be too little, too late.

“I live this. I eat it. I sleep it. I dream it. I’m on it 24/7. There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not doing something,” she said. “They’re not going to pay anybody. Nobody’s going to come forward. The police have everything they’re ever going to get and they know it. And according to police, they’re waiting on the District Attorney to make his move.”

Jury selection in Stanko’s trial is scheduled to start in early Dec. He’s maintained his innocence since the beginning of the investigation.
