Baby not in car seat when thrown from car during crash in Westmoreland County

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A baby was not in a car seat and was thrown from a car during a crash Wednesday afternoon in Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The car the 1-year-old girl was in turned out of a business on Edna Road and into the path of another car, leading to the collision just before 3 p.m.

Due to the impact of the crash, the baby was thrown from the car through the driver’s side back window, police said. She landed in a grassy area about 35 feet away.

The baby was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, police said. Her mother and father were taken by ambulance to Forbes Hospital.

The driver of the other car involved in the crash was taken to Westmoreland Hospital.
