Class action clergy abuse lawsuit against Pittsburgh diocese could be expanded

PITTSBURGH — Lawyers are looking to expand a class action lawsuit against the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh to include four more Pennsylvania dioceses.

In January, a judge ruled the lawsuit, which seeks the public disclosure of clergy abuse records, could move forward against the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Lawyers now want to add the dioceses of Greensburg, Harrisburg and Altoona-Johnstown, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

The lawsuit was initially filed in September 2018, a month after the release of the state’s grand jury report.
