PITTSBURGH — The I-579 “Cap” Urban Connector project is taking shape in downtown Pittsburgh.
Crews have been hard at work transforming the space, with a bright vision for people who work and play downtown. Piles of dirt, rubble and construction fencing will soon be a thing of the past.
Now starting to look more like a park, the site near the former Civic Arena has been a year and a half in the making. That time has been spent capping off the once open highway area by adding a roof and turning it into a park, which will have trails and other amenities.
It’s a nearly $30 million face-lift.
Drivers have had to deal with various restrictions while construction continues, but people are excited to see the finished product.
