A new report released Tuesday said a chemical herbicide found in weed killer was discovered in breakfast cereals and snack bars.
The Environmental Working Group said nearly all 28 products tested had glyphosate, above the group's benchmark. That's the chemical found in the weed killer Roundup.
The chemical was found in these foods, according to the study:
Quaker Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Almonds
Quaker Instant Oatmeal Cinnamon & Spice
Quaker Instant Oatmeal Apples & Cinnamon
Quaker Real Medleys Super Grains Banana Walnut
Quaker Overnight Oats Raisin Walnut & Honey Heaven
Quaker Overnight Oats Unsweetened with Chia Seeds
Quaker Oatmeal Squares Brown Sugar
Quaker Oatmeal Squares Honey Nut
Apple Cinnamon Cheerios
Very Berry Cheerios
Honey Nut Cheerios
Cheerios Oat Crunch Cinnamon
Quaker Chewy S’mores
Quaker Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
Quaker Breakfast Squares Soft Baked Bars Peanut Butter
Quaker Breakfast Flats Crispy Snack Bars Cranberry Almond
In a statement to CNN, General Mills officials said, “The extremely low levels of pesticide residue cited in recent news reports is a tiny fraction of the amount the government allows.”
This is the second study of food items. Earlier this year, the first study had similar results and found that more than 30 oat-based foods contained the same chemical.
