PITTSBURGH — The farmers market in Pittsburgh’s Market Square is back for its 17th season starting Thursday.
The Market Square Farmers Market went on last year despite the pandemic because, like a grocery store, it is considered an essential service. But compared to last year, this year it’s going to be bigger.
More than 25 vendors will set up every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October.
“Obviously, Market Square and downtown has taken a hit in the last year, but bringing people back into town and showing them that we’re still here is very inviting, and is obviously something that the city needs right now,” Jordan Nicholas, owner of Nicholas Coffee & Tea Co., said.

The farmers market is just one event hoping to get more people to head downtown again.
“There’s a lot of activity and a lot of great things planned for this spring, summer and fall,” Jack Dougherty, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership director of special events, said.
Some of the other events include Yoga in the Square, which is already back. Night Markets will return in June, and happy hour concerts are in the works.
