Nearly $8,000 of Pittsburgh youth football team’s equipment ruined

PITTSBURGH — The upcoming season for the Hazelwood Cobras is in limbo after their coach found the field house flooded.

The president of the football team, James Cole, said that he came in and found the faucet on and the team’s equipment destroyed.

They claimed it was at the hands of the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority.

“I live in this area, so one day I woke up and looked out the back window, and I saw that the door was open,” Cole said.

According to the team, about $8,000 worth of equipment is now useless.

If it isn’t replaced by the start of the team’s season in late June, youth football for nearly 120 children will go down the drain.

Channel 11 reached out to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority. They said they were in the building installing a water meter.

“The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority is working with the claimant to come to a resolution that would meet the interests of both parties,” it stated.

Cole told us so far, the authority has only offered to pay for half of the damages.

“That’s not fair. We fundraise to get all of this equipment. We aren’t a neighborhood with a bunch of resources and a lot of people helping us. It’s not fair that our kids are in jeopardy of not having a season, because of these people’s negligence,” Cole said.
