‘No vaccination = No service,’ Pittsburgh establishments requiring masks, proof of vaccination

PITTSBURGH — Two restaurants on Pittsburgh’s North Side will not serve customers without proof of full vaccination.

Leo. a public house posted the message on its Facebook page, saying, “No Vaccination = No Service.”

The post also mentions that customers will need to show proof of full vaccination and must show their identification.

That restaurant and Lola Bistro are both owned and operated by Michael Barnhouse, who also serves as the chef. Barnhouse told Channel 11 that he will implement the same policy at both restaurants starting Wednesday. Leo. a public house opened in 2020. Lola Bistro was opened in 2008.

Both restaurants plan to not serve customers without proof of vaccination and identification. Channel 11 asked Barnhouse why he decided to make this change and he explained that he knows a majority of his customers, and many of them are at higher risk of contracting COVID-19.

“I’m doing it to protect the people that I love that live in my neighborhood,” Barnhouse said. “You either have a hard copy (of your vaccination) or copy on your phone. And if you don’t, we don’t know you. We are not serving you.”

He says it’s more important to protect his community than to lose some business. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, New York City just became the first city to require proof of vaccination for indoor dining.

Across town, Mon Aimee Chocolat in the Strip District is also requiring a mask regardless of vaccination status for customers to enter.
