Pa. reports over 300 COVID-19 deaths for second straight day

ALLEGHENY CO., Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed 8,992 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday.

For the second straight day, the state also reported more than 300 deaths caused by COVID-19, and the number of people hospitalized is at 5,962.

Of those, 1,178 are in the ICU with severe cases.

The Allegheny County Health Department reported 811 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday.

A 3-week-old baby was the youngest new case in the county, and officials said 48 of the positive cases are more than a week old.

There were also 10 new deaths reported -- four of them were associated with long-term care facilities.

Since March 14, there have been 53,809 cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County residents, 3,204 hospitalizations and 955 deaths.
