Parents file lawsuit against Upper St. Clair over mask mandate issues

UPPER ST. CLAIR, Pa. — A lawsuit was filed in federal court on behalf of a group of families of medically disabled children against the Upper St. Clair School District over the mask mandate.

According to our partners at TribLIVE.com, the families want a temporary restraining order that would reinstate a universal mask requirement on school property and in school buildings. The suit comes after district leaders reversed the masking rules earlier this month.

U.S. District Judge William Stickman said he plans to issue a decision on Friday.

The families behind the lawsuit argue that by not requiring masks, district leaders are putting medically disabled children at risk.

The attorney representing the families, Kenneth Behrend, is also involved in a similar lawsuit against the North Allegheny School District. In that case, a judge issued an order requiring the district to put its mask mandate back in place.
