Street sweeper gets stuck in hole after water main break in Shaler

SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A street sweeper partially fell into a hole after a water main break early Thursday morning in Shaler Township.

Water began gushing about 2 a.m. from the break, which happened in the area of the Shaler Plaza along Butler Street. The water also spilled onto Saxonburg Boulevard until crews shut it off.

The street sweeper was in a private parking lot just past the plaza’s entrance when it got stuck in the hole.

The street sweeper has since been removed from the hole and all roads in the area are open.

Crews said the hole opened up right where the water main break, which was likely caused by freezing and thawing, occurred.
