Trial continues for restaurant owner accused of sexually assaulting sleeping woman

PITTSBURGH — Adnan Pehlivan is back in the Allegheny County Courthouse for a retrial after his first trial for sexual assault and burglary charges ended with a deadlocked jury.

The victim once again relived the night that she met Pehlivan, who at the time owned the popular restaurant Istanbul Sofra.

A lengthy surveillance video showed the victim and her friends, where Pehlivan sits next to the women, buys the group shots of whiskey and shows them magic tricks.

Investigators say after that, he followed her back to her Southside apartment, broke into her room, then began to sexually assault her while she was asleep.

She fought back and chased him out of her home.

Prosecutors say the victim never invited Pehlivan to her home or even gave him her address.

The defense attorneys told the jury that the victim agreed to meet up with Pehlivan late that night, and everything that happened was consensual.

In the previous trial, Pehlivan was found not guilty of simple assault and stalking.
