Troubling trend of swastikas continues at Mt. Lebanon middle school

MT. LEBANON, Pa. — Yet again, a swastika was found at Jefferson Middle School in Mt. Lebanon, the school’s principal said Wednesday in a letter to families.

The swastika, which has become a troubling trend for the school and district, was etched inside a restroom stall, the letter said.

The last time a swastika was found at the middle school was in October. That was the fourth time in the past year a swastika was found in a district school, and the third time one was found at the middle school, officials said.

In Wednesday’s letter, Principal Sarah Shaw addressed what has been done to address the issue.

“Our comprehensive response to this and previous incidents have been supplemented with additional investigative strategies. For example, we have instituted period-by-period checks of surfaces and locations in the building. This vigilance allows us to identify a smaller pool of potential perpetrators. We remain committed to getting to the bottom of this, and those responsible for this reprehensible behavior will be held accountable,” Shaw said.
