University of Pittsburgh announces additional COVID-19 policies; students have mixed reactions

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh is changing its COVID-19 policies ahead of the fall semester due to rising cases in the area.

Regardless of vaccination status, face coverings are required when indoors. If you are outdoors and not fully vaccinated, you should wear a face covering when unable to maintain physical distancing.

Additionally, anyone in the University that has not provided proof of vaccination will be required to participate in regular COVID-19 testing.

These rules and additional guidance apply to all university members including students, faculty and staff on all campuses when on university property.

Students had mixed reactions to the news.

“It is kind of a bummer, it sucks, but if that’s what we have to do, we will do it,” explained freshman Richie Doneto.

Tanner Vietmier told us that he’s looking forward to starting college and thankful masks are the only change being implemented.

“It is what it is. If we have to we have to. At least we are in person. If we don’t go back online, I’m okay. In person, at least it gives me the real experience,” Vietmier said.

Some students thought that it would be a step in the right direction.

“I think its a good step for us to incentivize getting vaccinated to keep everyone safe but it’s frustrating, I’m ready to be done with all of this,” Lauren Wilmoth said.
