West Mifflin School District to pay former superintendent $2.9 million

PITTSBURGH — The West Mifflin School District was ordered by a federal jury to pay a former superintendent $2.9 million.

Former superintendent Daniel Castagna, now the superintendent for the Woodland Hills School District, was awarded the money after the jury ruled his First Amendment rights were violated and he was fired in 2019.

Castagna was hired in 2007 and was the superintendent from 2011 until 2018. He had been charged with DUI in 2008 and was charged with it again in 2019.

Castagna was let go from his position in West Mifflin in March 2019.
