Winner chosen: Kangaroo hopping back to Kennywood with vintage look!

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — With the Kangaroo returning to Kennywood in 2022, the ride needed a new style -- and fans selected a vintage theme as the winner.

After nearly 12,000 votes were tallied, vintage came up with the victory over a classic theme, Kennywood announced Wednesday morning. Vintage received about 80% of the votes.

The beloved ride will also get a new logo, vibrant car designs and a new LED lighting package.

It was announced on Nov. 19 that the Kangaroo -- which first debuted in 1962 and inspired the amusement park’s mascot, Kenny Kangaroo -- would be refurbished and brought back as an attraction.

Fans had pleaded for the ride to return after it was announced in 2020 that it was being retired.
