Wiz Khalifa’s mom among Black veterans being honored on banners in Hill District

PITTSBURGH — The mother of Pittsburgh native Wiz Khalifa is among Black veterans being honored this fall in the Hill District.

“No Hero Left Behind” is a grassroots organization against military homelessness and suicide, and sponsored the banners.

Khalifa’s mother, who is an Air Force vet, said her hope is that the banners send a message to young girls.

“I want little girls to look at these banners and to know that military service is a good life and it’s an honorable life, and they can be patriots and don’t let anyone define your patriotism,” said Peachie Wimbush-Polk, Khalifa’s mom.

The banners will remain up until Veterans Day.
