Woman shot in Stowe Township dies, man arrested

STOWE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 28-year-old who was shot in the head Thursday morning in Stowe Township has died, Allegheny County police said.

The victim was identified late Saturday by the Allegheny County Medical Examiners Office as Kelly Cody, of Pittsburgh.

Police said Cody was found shot along Broadway Avenue, just steps away from several businesses. She was rushed to the hospital, but later died.

Investigators arrested Lauren Brown, 29, in connection with shooting. He’s also accused of assaulting a 31-year-old man.

County investigators said Cody and Brown went up to a car in the alley.

Brown, who was inside the car, and Cody started having a conversation. That’s when Cody was shot, police said.

Brown, who also had a warrant out for his arrest, was taken into custody.

Brown is in the Allegheny County Jail and is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and firearm violations.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March.
