Man turns himself in to police after woman shot dead in Tarentum

TARENTUM. Pa. — A woman is dead and police are investigating after a shooting late Thursday night in Tarentum.

It happened near the intersection of 5th and Main Streets around 11 p.m.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman on Monday as Arquwonna Wright, 30, of Tarentum.

Marella Kernen lives in the apartment building at that intersection. She was asleep in bed when the gunshots rang out.

“It was repeatedly boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,” she said, describing, by her count, eight gunshots that startled her awake.

Tarentum and Allegheny County Police say the victim, a 30-year-old woman, was hit multiple times, and died at the scene.

Kernen knew the woman as “Q,” saying the mother of two young kids lived in the next apartment building over.

“It’s a shame for them babies, right around the holidays,” she said.

On Thursday, county police said a suspect, DaShawn Frederick of Wilkinsburg, turned himself in at Pittsburgh Municipal Court. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
