Human remains found for sixth time at Lake Mead

LAS VEGAS — Divers have found more human remains in the historically low Lake Mead east of Las Vegas.

A diver found a human bone on Oct. 17, which later led to the discovery of human skeletal remains the next day, the National Park Service confirmed to KTNV on Wednesday.

The station reported that foul play is not suspected, and the Clark County Coroner’s Office has been tasked with identifying the remains.

The discovery is part of the growing number of bodies discovered in the lake since May.

On May 1, a barrel containing human remains was found near Hemenway Harbor. Police believe the body was dumped in the lake in the 1970s or 1980s.

Less than a week later, human skeletal remains were found at Callville Bay, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Additional discoveries were made over the summer as the shoreline receded at the reservoir on the Colorado River behind the Hoover Dam.

The reservoir’s levels dipped to historic lows this year amid a drought but have just started to rise again as less water is let out of the dam and evaporation decreases, according to KLAS.
