Aaron Rodgers excited to reunite with head coach Mike McCarthy in Steelers season opener

PITTSBURGH — The Steelers are back on the practice field preparing for Sunday’s opener against Atlanta.

Channel 11 Sports Director Jenna Harner heard from quarterback Aaron Rodgers Wednesday ahead of the final regular-season opener of his career.

Don’t expect a whole lot of nostalgia or emotion from Rodgers as he prepares for the matchup.

Rodgers told us he’ll have some butterflies, as normal, and he’s excited for kickoff. But to him, this is just another game.

However, there may be more emotions coming into Sunday’s matchup for head coach Mike McCarthy.

Rodgers told us this is a big deal for his head coach, calling it a great full-circle moment.

And Rodgers and the rest of the group are excited to put some good film out for their head coach this weekend.

There’s been a lot of buzz this offseason about the reunion between Rodgers and McCarthy.

Rodgers noted just how good the dynamic is between the two as they begin another season.

“Mike’s a good play caller. We got a good relationship, quarterback to play caller,” Rodgers said. “There’s a lot of trust going both ways, and I’m excited about what it’s going to feel like to hear his voice, very Pittsburghese voice in my helmet again.”
