Brett Keisel holds final Shear Da Beard event for Children’s Hospital

PITTSBURGH — For the last time, former Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel sheared his famous beard in support of cancer programs at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Keisel hosted the 10th and final Shear Da Beard Thursday night at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille.

Celebrity guests as well as current and former Steelers took part in the shaving ceremony.

Nora Misencik, a 4-year-old cancer patient, even helped out on the stage. Keisel started visiting her in the hospital, when she was just 6 months old.

"This beard and the tough persona you have with being a football player and all those things are all a part of it. But tonight the reason we do Shear Da Beard is for kids like her who are born with something that is out of their control and the fight they have to go through,” Keisel said.

The event has raised more than $730,000 over the last decade.
